On July 25, 2017, at the Radisson Hotel in Lansing, MI, spend time examining how technology can help us reach the students who need us the most!

This engaging day is focused on YOU, teachers in the classroom, and how you can leverage technology to reach the students that need us the most.

This day will focus how we teach and engage all our students. Whether we have one device in the classroom or each student has his own, we are at an unprecedented moment in time to utilize technology to enable truly personalized learning opportunities for all of our students.

Cost includes breakfast, lunch and an awesome experience with teachers who make a difference -- just like YOU!

This day is designed to move quickly and is geared towards facilitating deep conversations of consequence for our classroom, school, community and state landscapes.

Keynote Speaker: Pernille Ripp

“How To Empower and Engage Your Students”

Would you want to be a student in your own classroom? In this session, based on the book Passionate Learners: How to Engage and Empower Your Students, 7th grade teacher Pernille Ripp will help both novice and seasoned teachers create a positive, interactive learning environment where students drive their own academic achievement. You’ll discover how to make fundamental changes to your classroom so learning becomes an exciting challenge rather than a frustrating ordeal.

Attendees will discover practical strategies for how to build a working relationship with your students based on mutual trust, respect, and appreciation, be attentive to your students’ needs and share ownership of the classroom with them, and break out of the vicious cycle of punishment and reward to control student behavior. Whether you are just beginning or well on your way in your teaching career, this session is meant to inspire you, help you take some risks, and eagerly pursue your journey toward a classroom filled with passionate learners.

Campers from 2016:

Digital Scavenger Hunt

This year’s Day Camp will feature a digital scavenger hunt that will be facilitated using GooseChase, a mobile app driven scavenger hunt tool. This ongoing activity will help to engage Day Campers in collaborative professional learning with other teachers attending the conference. The scavenger hunt will be open throughout the day and will connect to the key themes of the event.

Lightning Bug Speakers

Four Michigan educators will be giving short talks in which they will share their blended learning experiences. The educators represent a cross-section of the K-12 spectrum.

Liz Kolb - Learning First, Technology Second

Liz Kolb is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Education at the University of Michigan. Liz will be giving us a look into her new book “Learning First, Technology Second”. As an exclusive perk, Day Campers will have the chance to sign up for the Learning First, Technology Second book study at no cost! This will be a professional learning opportunity to extend your learning beyond Liz’s session and will be facilitated as an online course through MVU’s Professional Learning Portal.

Breakout EDU & Makerspaces

An opportunity for conference attendees to get a taste of Breakout EDU and Makerspaces and gain ideas and new strategies they could take back to their own classrooms.

What else is happening at Day Camp 2017?

Teachers from across the state will be converging upon Lansing to share their blended learning designs and strategies. This session will put strategic technology integration on exhibit. Nearly 20 educators have prepared poster sessions to illustrate their practice and capture the essence of what personalized learning looks like in their classrooms.

As a Day Camper you’ll participate in a gallery walk of the exhibits as these educations standby to answer your questions and chat with you about the possibilities for your own classrooms. This was our most acclaimed session of Day Camp ‘16 and we’re looking forward to another great idea sharing session this year!

Collaborative Learning Opportunities

As advocates for strategic technology use to enable personalized learning opportunities for students, it’s important to us to design our professional learning for teachers to model the same. While the day will feature speakers and resources that will have value in itself, we’d like to think that the most valuable contribution comes through the conversations you’ll have and the thinking you’ll personally engage in.

Our Camp Counselor team is composed of outstanding educational leaders throughout our state. A Counselor will be sitting at each table in the main venue hall, your table group will serve as your Cabin Group. Throughout the day you’ll engage actively with your group to process session topics, engage in deep conversations around the issues that matter most to you cabin group and establish connections that will help to grow your professional learning network beyond the scope of the conference.
